WCFC Wrightway Design Hammers (10) v Athletic Weekenders (2)

In what was being billed as a blockbuster top of the table clash between the 2 unbeaten sides in the Roly Taylor Championship, the WCFC Wrightway Design Hammers took the field expecting a tough game…unfortunately for the masses of fans on the sideline somebody forgot to tell Athletic Weekenders to show up. The Hammers picked apart their younger fitter opposition piece by piece as the goals stacked up for the yellow team. 5-0 up at half time and showing no signs of slowing.  2 second half goals to Athletic salvaged a shred of respect but Hammers answered back with another 5 of their own, final score 10 – 2 to City Hammers who now sit alone at the top of the league ladder.

WCFC Repac Thirsties (12) v Marist Casuals (2)

(Jake Lockett 8, Russell Fergusson 2, Archie Smith 1, Josh Rod 1)

The Thirsties came up against the Marisrt Casuals this week. With some fresh faced recruits from the youth league making their mens league debuts. For the first 20 minutes we dominated the possession, until finally Jake Lockett broke through to make it 1-0. What followed on from there was the Jake Lockett show, as he scored 4 more times to make it 5-0 at half time.

Come 2nd Half it was Marist casuals who scored first, catching us a bit sleepy. But then after a few pieces of magic from Jake Lockett and Russell Fergusson, the score was then 10-2. Archie Smith opened up his account for scoring, leaping up high to head in an absolute beauty of a cross from who else but Jake Lockett, and then Josh Rod made his debut into mens league a memorable one as he scored as well, assist from you guessed it….Jake Lockett. Final score 12-2 to the Thirsties. Next up is the Athletic Cosmos, which looks to be a good game!

WCFC Women (24) v Castlecliff Saints (1)

Rose Davidson (13)
Courteney Nixon (4)
Eva Thompson (4)
Mel Moore
Carly Cvitanovich
OG

This weekend saw the city girls up against CC saints who had come off a 9 nil loss the previous week, so City knew they wouldn’t be too much of a threat.. That proved correct when within a couple minutes from the starting whistle Mel had already found the back of the net, followed closely by a multitude of goals from last years Central Football Women’s Golden Boot, Rose Davidson, who managed to bring her total tally of goals into double digits only after playing just a handful of games.. Courteney in the midfield showed she also knows how to play an attacking game, after spending most of last season in the backline, by scoring some outstanding top corner powerful goals! No doubt she will prove that she has the potential to be valuable in any position you put her. Eva, our new and youngest addition to the team, who also happened to win last years Central Football’s Youth Female Player of the Year, managed to bag her 4 goals and show Wanganui what she’s made of! Briar was making some probing runs along the left wing and was unlucky not to score along with Kayla who was making some threatening attacking runs right from the back of the field all the way to the top, she again was unlucky not to get her name on the scorecard. Carly with her signature left foot added to the scoresheet with  Castlecliff also helping to citys goal tally by scoring an amazing header unfortunately into the wrong net.. luckily for the same girl she also had an unstoppable shot scoring into the correct goal at the other end bringing the final score to 24-1. Next week sees a bye for City as the Kelly Hiroa competition starts bringing the college girls into the tournament. Their next game sees City away to High school on 12th May.
